King’s Forest Golf Club, Hamilton Ontario

Hamilton’s public golf punches above its weight. You get holes along the valley, views of the escarpment, and swirling winds that challenge golfers of all abilities.

You’ll need your game dialled at all of these courses, and below are five of our favourite options in the area. We’ve also put together a quick 45-minute indoor simulator session that will help you get ready for the course.

Note: All courses listed are public. Check course or city websites for tee times and current conditions.

King’s Forest Golf Club — honest and long

Big canvases, straightforward asks, no gimmicks. To score here, you need a reliable driver and a 185–205‑yard club you can trust under pressure. The greens reward smart approaches more than hero shots.

What to bring: One driver shape; a go‑to long‑iron/hybrid carry; a 100–120 wedge number you love.

45‑minute indoor prep:

  • 10 min: Driver pattern—pick a side and stick to it.

  • 10 min: 185–205 carry with hybrid/long iron—same routine, ten swings.

  • 10 min: 100–120 wedge ladder (carry, not total).

  • 15 min: Skills test; save the score.

Chedoke Beddoe — angles and elevation

You’ll see a variety of different lies and required shot shapes. Chedoke Beddoe course asks for discipline off the tee and the ability to control your mid-to-short irons.

What to bring: Consistency with your mid-irons; command of all three trajectories; a three‑quarter wedge that lands softly.

45‑minute indoor prep:

  • 10 min: 7‑iron start‑line focus.

  • 10 min: Low/mid/high windows to one target. Focus on launch angle in the sims.

  • 10 min: 90–110 three‑quarter wedges.

  • 15 min: “Fairway finder” 3‑wood. Dial back the swing speed and focus on consistent contact in the simulator - aim for 1.48 smash factor and above.

Chedoke Martin — classic and scoreable

Shorter par‑4s and fair greens. The Martin course rewards clarity more than creativity. Pick your target and ensure you can hit your carry numbers.

What to bring: 40/60/80 wedge carries; a confident 115–130 approach; one driver shape for the day.

45‑minute indoor prep:

  • 10 min: Wedge matrix (40/60/80 carry).

  • 10 min: 115–130 stock approach—same club, same flight.

  • 10 min: Driver consistency—own your miss.

  • 15 min: Play a couple of warmup holes in the simulator.

Copetown Woods — modern, open, wind‑exposed

A prevalent breeze is commonly part of the challenge at this beautifully designed course. If your mid‑irons balloon or your driver launch spins too much, Copetown gets long in a hurry.

What to bring: One lower‑flight mid‑iron; driver set to a launch/spin window you can repeat; a simple 120‑yard wedge you trust.
45‑minute indoor prep:

  • 10 min: 7‑iron—reduce launch angle to a consistent yardage.

  • 10 min: Driver— focus on lower launch angles and spin rates.

  • 10 min: 120‑to‑pin ladder—low/mid/high to the same target.

  • 15 min: Intentional draw/fade within a 10‑yard window.

Flamborough Hills — variety across three nines

Different looks, same asks: distance control, smart tee choices, and the ability to shape the ball.

What to bring: Full‑bag carry numbers (PW–4i); a dependable fairway finder; reliable wedges.

45‑minute indoor prep:

  • 10 min: Dial in your carry distances PW–4i— take note of the numbers in the Trackman app.

  • 10 min: 90–115 wedges—consistent spin and height.

  • 10 min: 3‑wood vs. driver dispersion comparison—pick the more reliable club

  • 15 min: “Par‑5 set”—tee ball, lay‑up yardage, green‑light wedge.

A simple night‑before checklist (works for any course)

  1. Review your carry distances (wedge ladder + 7‑iron through 5‑iron).

  2. Pick one driver shape and keep it all day.

  3. Choose a stock approach number (e.g., 115 or 125) and plan lay‑ups around it.

  4. Pack a rangefinder and confirm what your yardage is to carry the trouble.

  5. Get a good stretch and get ready to go make some birdiesl.

Do sim numbers really hold up outside?

Trackman simulators are trusted by PGA Tour players and elite-level golfers around the world because of the breadth and accuracy of data. Things like weather, wind, moisture, and your lie can impact your numbers outside, but your Trackman numbers will serve as your source of truth for your typical carry distances and dispersion patterns. Dialling in your distances indoors is a great way to shave strokes off your game.
